-Open to ALL grades-
Since we have become a society of coffee shops, book clubs and poetry readings, I thought it would be appropriate to create this type of environment in the library as well. After all, students will probably be frequent coffee and donut dunkers by college…I was!
Each Friday, starting on October 29 from 2:05-3:00 pm, the media will become a lounge of beanbags, beach chairs, and blankets to provide a spot to read, be read to, and share worthy books. M’s Café will also be serving refreshments for all who lounge.
The book club part of this program allows your scholars to respond to what they are reading. Students will be able to openly discuss their books and “sell it” to others in the school either on paper, computer or orally. We will create a library card catalog of peer reviewed reading responses.
Once a month we will have oral readings in the library. Your scholar will be the oral storyteller and share an excerpt from a novel, a poem or a piece of his or her own work. In this way, he or she will become a more fluent speaker and reader before an audience. We all benefit by being exposed to the different genres of literature—the real treat is hearing great literature!
So let’s dim the lights, let the jazz fill the air, and put our hats on as we dive into the world of literature! Join today!
